Community development plans set out what people living in a part of the islands say they need, and in what order. The plans are then used to shape projects and to support funding bids. Three areas of Mull and Iona have been through the process.

North and central Mull

Ross of Mull and Iona
The Ross of Mull and Iona was identified as a fragile area in need of support under Growth at the Edge (GATE), a programme developed by Highlands and Islands Enterprise to meet the objectives of the Scottish Government’s Economic Strategy.
One part of GATE is Community Account Management, where HIE works with an anchor organisation to support growth across a whole community. MICT is the anchor organisation for Ross of Mull and Iona GATE.
Funding was provided to employ a Local Development Officer, who supported community consultation and planning and worked alongside local groups taking forward projects in the plan. The aim of GATE is for communities to drive their own development and create social, economic and cultural opportunities.

Development work in this area is now taken forward by South West Mull and Iona Development.
TO CONFIRM: How MICT and South West Mull and Iona Development divide this work now, and whether Growth at the Edge or Community Account Management still run. The programme wording on the old page dates from around 2011.

Ulva Ferry
A community plan was also produced for Ulva Ferry. The affordable housing that followed came directly out of the consultation that produced it.
